A savvy journo

I knew Morgan from both sides of the fence - in my short stint at the Financial Review and at CommSec, where Morgan would seek comments & views.
The thing that struck me about Morgan was his savviness - a quality that many aspire to (especially journos and economists!), but only so many achieve.
Morgan knew how to separate the wheat from the chaff and get the pertinent facts and the interesting angles - no guff. Do the job, and do it well.
I was especially proud that I could be there when he received his Walkley, as I remember how passionately and thoroughly he worked through the Gerard investigation.
I congratulated him on his award at drinks after the Walkleys, but when talk shifted to work-type issues, he said that the night was a time to unwind and enjoy good company - and on that he was spot-on, as always.
Others are better able to reflect on Morgan, but to me, he always knew what was really important.
My condolences to his good friends and family.
