A few of us went on a day trip to Gilli Trawangan before covering the Lombok Treaty signing last November.Unlike most of the Aussie Jakarta correspondent crew, Morgan was always making the time to get away on adventures which the rest of us were too narrowly focused to contemplate.
Thankfully, on this day we got to join him on a brief adventure.
Never broody or obsessive like the rest of us tend to be, Morgan carried himself with a grinning lightness of being that always brightened up a room of dull journos.
Jakarta was his year of living passionately and effortlessly until it ended all too dangerously.
He was a great journo and probably an even better surfer.
Fearless but never reckless, till the last.
Deepest sympathies to all that knew him and to those who never got the chance.
