Only recently Morgan posed for a family photo holding the coveted Walkley in one hand, and a Blue Mountains Gazette article reporting on his niece's achievements at this year's Central Tablelands Carnivals in the other.
Tragically, Morgan will not be there to congratulate his niece and nephew on their future swimming wins.
He was one of 21 people killed after a Garuda Boeing 737-400 crashed in Indonesia last week.
Morgan was on his way to cover Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer's trip to Indonesia for the Financial Review.
He won the Walkley Award for his series on tax evasion stories that rocked the Howard Government.
He had also been acknowledged for stories he produced on Rodney Adler and Ray Williams' part in the collapse of giant Australian company HIH.
Morgan is survived by his parents, Dawn and Peter, his sisters, Lucy (of Faulconbridge) and Caroline, his niece Kathryn and nephew Simon and his partner Nila Tanzil.
Morgan's funeral service will be held at St Andrew's Cathedral, corner George and Bathurst Streets, Sydney at 10am, Wednesday, March 21.
