Morgan – "My mate from down the road"

'Go Crack Your Croll' !!!
'Go Crack Your Croll' was played religiously every day after school and throughout the school holidays. There was only one place it was played, “Morgan’s backyard”.
Morgan had a house that had a two tier garden with a bit of a rock shelf that led to a rather steep track……this was were the fun bit came in.
'Go cack your croll' involved throwing a tyre inner tube around your mates body after which, you were the next Croll and had to do it all over again.
It could take hours to manage to catch someone and get the inner tube around them. I
t was a bit like a game of “tip” only harder……

The Tree House
Morgan’s house had two huge trees with a treehouse built in (over two levels).
Many a day was spent adding to this tree house and being Tarzan swinging from a rope.
Sitting up in the treehouse we felt like kings.
It was our domain – somewhere just to hang about with your mates and learn about life.

The Windsurfer and the walk home.
Morgan & I invested the huge amount of $50 to buy a very old Windsurfer.
Old windsurfer’s were considerably heavier that they are now.
That didn’t stop two young kids walking about a kilometre or two down to the beach throughout the summer holidays and teach themselves how to sail.
We would take turns sitting on the back while the other one sailed along.
We eventually raised the cash to buy one that didn’t sink after being in the water for too long…
The walk home (up the hill) was when you realised who your mates were.

My Mate Down The Road
Morgan……he was my "MATE from down the road".
He was the guy that was a year older and knew everything there was to know in life.
He was the guy you always looked up to.
He was my "MATE from down the road".

Ed (from down the road)
