So many of our childhood and teenage memories

Dear Lucy, Caroline, Dawn and Peter,

My thoughts and those of my family are with you all at such a terrible terrible time. We are just devastated at your loss.

Although it's such a long time since we've seen each other, it seems that so many of our childhood and teenage memories involve you and Morgan, and the warmth and hospitality with which you opened your home to the whole neighbourhood.

Dawn, you were one of the first adults that I can recall having real 'grown-up' analytical conversations with, and when reading Morgan's work and these warm tributes from his colleagues, it seems clear to me that amongst your many gifts to him were his inquiring mind and interest in the world around him. You must be so proud of the way that he took these native instincts and ran with them to make such a success of his chosen profession and to have such a lasting impact on his readers and colleagues.

My only meeting with Morgan over the last few years was full of laughter. He and Simon Dale and I shared a table at James Balnaves' wedding, and were quickly reminiscing about the people and adventures of our childhood - and of course the infamous game of 'Go crack your croll' with my brother Edward ending up head first in your incinerator. At the end of the evening I went home very glad to have crossed paths with Morgan again, and impressed with what a charming and fun man he'd turned into.

I am so glad to read that Morgan was a person living his dreams - may he inspire everyone of us whose lives he touched to follow our own.

Our thoughts, love and prayers are with you,
Jayne Tancred
